Podaci kažu da na svake tri hiljade onih koji se podvrgnu brazilskom podizanju zadnjice jedan umre, što je duplo više nego kod bilo koje druge estetske operacije.

Brazilsko podizanje zadnjice zapravo je zahvat kojim se u zadnjicu ubrizgava salo sa stomaka ili bokova. Smrtnost nakon ove procedure znatno je veća nego nakon drugih operacija, najpre zbog krvnih ugrušaka ili masnoća koje završe u krvotoku. I oporavak je prilično težak: ne smijete sjedeti šest nedelja, ne smijete raditi 10 dana, morate spavati na stomaku, a željeni izgled dolazi tek nakon nekoliko mjeseci ili čak godinu dana, piše Žena Blic.

Lattia Baumeister, 30, of Rock Island, Illinois, flew to Miami last week for a procedure at Seduction by Jardon's Medical Center in Doral, Florida. Tragically, the mother-of-six died following Brazilian butt lift surgery with a doctor who had been accused of malpractice. Lattia stopped breathing mid-procedure and was rushed to hospital where she later died, police records show. Her surgeon, Dr. Osakatukei 'Osak' Omulepu, 44, has been accused of malpractice over multiple botched plastic surgeries and even had his license revoked in April by the state's medical board. But an appeals panel overturned the ruling and on Thursday, June 1, 2017 the same day Omulepu performed the butt lift on Lattia – Florida's First District Court of Appeal denied another request from the Department of Health to stop him from performing certain procedures. The doctor has had multiple complaints filed against him, accusing him of seriously injuring patients during liposuction and Brazilian butt lift procedures, including a medical malpractice lawsuit filed in January which claims Omulepu left a patient in extreme pain and permanently disfigured after two cosmetic surgeries in 2015. His licence was then temporarily revoked in April 2017 after two patients complained they had to be hospitalized with life-threatening complications and injuries after he performed Brazilian butt lifts on them.  Omulepu was appealing the order by the state medical board's order to revoke his license when he carried out the surgery on Lattia. Steven Rosenberg, a member of the Florida Board of Medicine, told the Miami Herald he was 'frustrated' the appeals court delayed their decision to revoke Omulepu's license in April. Čini se da je za popularnost ovog trenda u estetskoj hirurgiji najzaslužnija starleta Kim Kardašijan, ali retko ko misli na tragične posljedice. Latija Baumajster (30), majka šestoro djece sa Floride, umrla je na operacionom stolu baš tokom ovakvog zahvata. Plastične operacije inače nisu mnogo rizične, ali ova jeste. Najčešće žrtve su majke, posebno one koje nakon porođaja požele da vrate željenu figuru.

Posljednja istraživanja šokirala su mnoge: na svake tri hiljade zahvata jedan pacijent premine, najčešće zbog ugrušaka masti koji završe u krvotoku. Ipak, doktori koji su istraživali ove slučajeve strahuju da bi ove brojke mogle biti još gore.

Zato preporučuju da se ove procedure ne izvode duboko u tkivo, već da se salo ubrizgava tik ispod kože. Rezultati možda neće biti isti, ali svakako je mnogo važnije ne ugrožavati ljudske živote.
